Our Curriculum
Please find above Penketh’s ‘Curriculum Map’ and ‘Curriculum Rationale’ for this academic year which provides details about the breadth of learning your child will experience. The curriculum map outlines the topics it is anticipated will be taught and more detailed overviews of the content of each topic can be found on your child’s class page by clicking the links on the Classes tab on the left hand side of this page. Please note that this planning is an outline guide and is subject to change depending on the engagement and level of interest of the children, the progress they make and their achievement of the subject knowledge and skills. There is a degree of flexibility which ensures there is an aspect of personalised learning for all children.
Children in the Early Years and Key Stage 1 use the DfE ‘Letters and Sounds' phonic and reading scheme as part of their English lessons, together with Jolly Phonics songs and rhymes to support engagement and help learning ‘stick’.
If you want to know more or have any questions, then please feel free to discuss this with your child’s class teacher, as we welcome parental involvement to extend children’s learning beyond the classroom.
All class teachers and subject leaders would be more than happy to discuss any questions or ideas you may have to further enhance our curriculum or extra-curricular offer. Please don't hesitate to contact them via the school office if you have any suggestions.
